Typekit turned OFF but still syncing AND interfering with Suitcase auto activation

Good day, all.

- We have an Imac we have upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.6, the latest Adobe CC (2017, 21.0.0 just downloaded), and the latest Suitcase Fusion (18.2.0 just downloaded). We have our own font library loaded into Suitcase Vault, just like on the iMacs not yet upgraded.

Artwork opens fine on the iMacs still running Adobe CS6 and Suitcase Fusion 6. This is what happens to the same art on the upgraded iMac:

Example A:

A1. In the CC App, I have Typekit turned OFF. As others have noted, this doesn't seem to do much.

A2. I open artwork. A Creative Cloud dialog pops up indicating missing fonts, all of which we actually have.

A3. After 5-10 seconds, the CC dialog says: "Successfully synced fonts from Typekit."
NO. WE DON'T WANT TO USE TYPEKIT FONTS. We rely on Suitcase Fusion's FontSense technology to auto-activate the correct fonts from OUR library.

Example B:

I opened another Illustrator artwork document. Typekit is still supposedly turned OFF.

Note:  No non-system fonts are activated in Suitcase fusion before starting.

Note:  In Illustrator, under Type>Suitcase Fusion, "All Libraries" is selected and "Enable Font Sense" is activated.

B1. A Suitcase Fusion dialog pops up showing that the Helvetica used in the art is different than those available. This is expected, since the TrueType/Apple Computer version of Helvetica is a newer version in El Capitan. Not a problem, as Suitcase Fusion shows us the two we can choose from. (Two, because we also have a Postscript version.) We have control of this part of the situation.

B2.  Like Example A, the CC dialog indicates missing fonts, all of which we actually have.

B3. Like Example A, after a few seconds, the CC dialog indicates it synced some of the fonts, which disappear from the list. It also lists:

Myriad-Bold: Default font substituted for missing font.

Myriad-Roman: Default font substituted for missing font.

MyriadPro-Cond: Available to sync from Typekit, with a checkbox in the Sync column.

MyriadPro-Semibold: Available to sync from Typekit with a checkbox in the Sync column.

B4.  I opened Suitcase Fusion. The window shows:

Myriad-Bold has a blue diamond, indicating Suitcase Fusion automatically and correctly activated the font.

Myriad-Roman has a blue diamond, indicating Suitcase Fusion automatically and correctly activated the font.

MyriadPro-Cond: Suitcase has not activated the font. This strongly suggests that Adobe prevented that activation and wants us instead to activate their version in Typekit.

MyriadPro-Semibold: Same as Cond. Suitcase has not activated the font.

B5. I go to the menu Illustrator>Type>Suitcase Fusion>Check Document Fonts. It still lists only the Helvetica font noted in Step B1.

B6. The Adobe Illustrator Character drop-down lists the four Myriad/MyriadPro fonts as missing, and the artwork shows an ugly substituted font, with the pink highlighting indicating it was substituted.

Bottom line:

- Adobe Illustrator refuses to recognize two fonts correctly auto-activated by Suitcase Fusion.

- Adobe is interfering with Suitcase's auto-activation of two fonts; instead, Adobe wants us to sync to Typekit, which is turned...off.

This is despite having the latest/greatest versions of Adobe CC and Suitcase Fusion.

I have screen captures for all of the above. It seems fairly clear that Adobe's Typekit, though "turned off", is interfering with Suitcase's auto-activation.

Our company stalled on going with subscription software as long as possible, hoping the bugs would be worked out. Now I have our entire art department waiting for a solution to this mess. Solution, not workaround. Could I spend time messing around with trying to activate the correct fonts permanently in Suitcase before opening the art? Could, but unfortunately I'm supposed to be an artist also and I already have a backlog, We don't have time to scan all our art for wrong versions of fonts/text wrapping issues; that's why we have Suitcase Fusion. Nor do I have time to train an entire department on confusing WORKAROUNDS.

Adobe?? What say you?

Where exactly are you turning off typeset in Illustrator??? You do that in creative cloud >. click gear icon top right >> Creative could tab top right

For good measure double check you are clean here.

Browse fonts | Typekit   >> clicked  synced fonts.

No font names should show instead a promotional screen trying to lure you into using typekit (T shirt icon).

Remove any type 1 versions of Helvetica & Myriad you may have. Flush your font cache.

Mike, thank you. I haven't found a way to turn off Typekit within Illustrator. I had turned it off in the CC app preferences, as you show in your screen capture.

I have flushed the font cache using both Suitcase's menu option and the terminal command provided by Kurt Lang's font guide. Permanently removing Type 1 versions of Helvetica and Myriad from the Suitcase Vault is not practical, as we have artwork that uses them... that's the whole point of using Suitcase.

When I go to Browse fonts|Typekit, and click Synced fonts, all I get is the T-shirt icons. No fonts listed. I just used the link in your posting... I'm new to the subscription approach and am honestly a little confused on how to get around.

But the bottom line for me so far is I'm not getting the Suitcase Fusion prompts regarding missing/multiple fonts that would let us activate the one we want...

Since you say that you have turned  off typekit in creative cloud, and since you double-checked that none are opened via typeset, does uno sound to me like typekit  is interfering. Do you have installed the correct font auto activation extensive plug in for suitcase to auto activate fonts for you, they keep updating that for every CC update..

Can you post  screenshots of the message you are seeing about font syncing, and your find font showing the fonts that are not activated. You also may want to go into Font Book, and make sure the Font Book auto activation  turned off there along with this versions of helvetica.

These forums are sometimes monitored by Adobe staff (but they are on holiday right now).

It is a user forum, so don't expect an answer from an Adobe representative.

I am afraid I can't help you with your questions (I do not have Suitcase Fusion, so it's hard to test).

Maybe you will have better luck in the TypeKit forum:

Ton, I've sometimes seen Adobe reps respond, so I thought I'd invite them...

I hesitate to put this in the TypeKit forum as we're actually not USING Typekit--at least, not intending to.

I've contacted Extensis (Suitcase Fusion) also; if I get any answers there I'll post here.

I would give the TypetKit forum a try, since Typekit is activated while you turned it off.
