Typing asian characters

I have been asked to include a bit of mandarin text in an illustration I am doing but when I imput the text not all of the characters come through. How do I fix this?

If you always writing Mandarin Chinese, the best is to set the software writing Language from the Creative Cloud App Preferences Setting:

For a quick solution, You can try this:

Choose Edit > Preferences > Type (Windows) or Illustrator > Preferences > Type (Mac OS).

Select Show Asian Options, and click OK.

I literally only have to type in Mandarin this one time ever. And that
solution didn't seem to do anything. I tried it before posting the
question...
