Unable to copy & paste text as text from Google Doc or Word doc in Illustrator on macOS Big Sur

I think there's a bug on AI because everytime I try to copy and paste a text on word or

Google doc it appears like it's an image.

Another big problem is represented by the fact that if I can't copy a word from AI and

paste on a file name in Max OSX Big Sur.

I suppose that is a bug because I use AI from several years ( 13 ) and it never happened with

past versions.

Any solutions?

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. I am unable to replicate this behavior on my macOS device. I would request you to share a few more details along with the ones asked by @Michael Bullo:

  • OS and version of Illustrator
  • Is the issue related to a specific document?
  • Could you please share a sample Ai, word document, and Google doc link in which you are facing this issue with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link here.
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Do you use any clipboard tool for copy-pasting?
  • Does resetting Illustrator Preferences ( https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

Also, please try booting the system into Safe Mode and share your observations. In Safe Mode, your device starts your system to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.

I will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Do you see a difference between copying text that is selected with the Selection Tool verses the Type Tool?
