Unable to move pixels from Photoshop into Illustrator

On Mac, running Sonoma. I am unable to move/drag layers from photoshop into illustrator. Beforehand, I could easily just have any layer/layers selected in photoshop, and use the move tool to drag from photoshop directly into illustrator. I loved being able to do this, espeically with layers that had transparent backgrounds because I could layout text around graphics in illustrator (it's much easier to do typography in illustrator) and then paste them as smart objects back into my photoshop file. Now, when I drag into illustrator, nothing happens, not even a blank broken linked image. Now, I can still make a selection in photoshop and copy paste into illustrator, but I have to first flatten the image (I typically work in many layers on photoshop), and I run the risk of accidentally forgetting that I've flattened my photoshop image and losing my layers and ability to edit. So much easier when I didn't have to merge, copy and paste. Any thoughts as to why this ability has been removed? I even tried reverting back to previous versions of both photoshop and illustrator.

Hello @ACressley,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Our team is aware of this problem and is currently investigating it. In the meantime, would you mind trying to revert to Photoshop v25.4 (https://adobe.ly/49gHES5) and checking if it helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

You can click the layer preview in Photoshop, right click > Select Pixels and copy Paste that into Illustrator.

Drag and Drop will change the colors in Illustrator if the Color profiles are different. Copy/Paste will convert colors or warn when that is turned on in the Color Setings.

My only concern is that only works with one layer. I usually have multiple layers within a design. You can make pixel selections from multiple layers, but you can ony copy those pixels from one layer, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes only a single layer.

But drag and drop multiple layers merges the layers into a single image.

Place embedded seems to keep layers.

Thank you for the suggestion Anubhav! That worked by reverting to PSv25.4! I look forward to the future updates where this issue is hopefully taken care of, and if not I'll be able to just revert back to v25.4.

Thanks!
