I'm using Illustrator to edit a vector smart object (Starting in Photoshop and double-clicking the Vector Smart Object thumbnail in Photoshop's layers panel to open Illustrator). When I try to save the Illustrator file (Vector Smart Object.ai) it hangs on Saving... for a while and then I get an error message: "Illustrator cannot save this document "Vector Smart Object.ai" due to some unexpected errors.".
If I then try to save it again, Illustrator crashes.
Any ideas? Thanks, this is driving me wild!

What's in it?
How much RAM do you have installed?
Where is the Photoshop file located?
Does Illustrator have full disk access?

Hi @mindyw___,
I'm sorry to hear that you're facing an issue while saving the Illustrator file. It can be quite frustrating. Let's try to troubleshoot this together.
Firstly, I appreciate Monika's questions, as they are essential in diagnosing the problem. To help us further investigate, could you please provide the following information:
What's in the Illustrator document (Vector Smart Object.ai)? Knowing the content and complexity of the document might help pinpoint the issue.
How much RAM do you have installed on your Mac? Running resource-intensive applications like Illustrator and Photoshop can sometimes lead to issues if your system is low on memory.
Where is the Photoshop file located? The location of your files can sometimes affect how they are accessed by different applications. Ensure both the Photoshop and Illustrator files are on a local drive, not a network drive or external storage.
Does Illustrator have full disk access? You can check this by going to "System Preferences" > "Security & Privacy" > "Privacy" tab > "Full Disk Access" on macOS. Ensure Illustrator has permission to access the folder where you're trying to save the file.
Additionally, if you could share the problematic Illustrator file (Vector Smart Object.ai) and the corresponding Photoshop file, it could help us investigate the issue more effectively. You can upload them to a file-sharing service like Google Drive or Dropbox and provide a link.
This will allow us to take a closer look and offer more targeted solutions.
Once we have more information, we can work towards resolving the problem.
best,
Anshul Saini

I would try creating a new document. Copy and paste the art into a new Illustrator document. Do any edits that are needed in the new document. Then copy and paste it back into Photoshop. Delete the original problem smart object.
This could fix it if the problem originated with the Illustrator smart object document. If the new smart object crashes too, then you have a system problem, not a file problem.
