I open an eps.
Copy the whole graphic.
Open correct template and paste copied graphic.
The template has Graphic styles with same fill and stroke (no other attributes exist) as in pasted graphic.
However, I cannot select elements in pasted graphic based on Graphic Style even though pasted graphic contains elements with same stroke and fill.
I cannot select on same stroke and fill either.
I checked Document Colour Mode and made sure it was RGB Color.
However, when I select the element and double click Color Picker the initial window is showing New Color 1100 so I suspect even though the same style illustrator is assigning the element color and stroke as new.
This selection process is a step in an action for applying styles and has worked - then it doesn't.
Probably something simple is changing parameters but appreciate suggestions as to where the issue might lie.
This is old CS2 on Mac PPC G5 but still pays for itself doing simple processing of output files.
Any advice appreciated as many hours trying to figure this out.
Thank you
Michael
Brilliant!! Works a treat. Just have to ensure that colour that Document Color Mode is CMYK and as you say Graphic Styles are set to same as imported graphic. I thought I was being smart by setting Document Color Mode to RGB and Graphic Style as well.
Thanks for spotting and really, really appreciate your time and knowledge.
Kind regards

You may want to update the workstation?

If the machine was the cause of the issue then the "action" simply would not run. But it has, frequently. And then frequently decides not too. And the issue is around the pasted element not being identified as having same stroke and fill, either by choosing "select same style" or "select same stroke and fill".

Yes, I mean, do all the workstations use CS2?

We only use on the one machine. For as and when needed.

I wish I could look at a sample file which does not work. About the "New Color 1100", what other information does the color window show? Maybe some of the colors are spot colors & not others (or there is some other differences) that make the pasted art not have the exact same stroke or fill colors. Also could the pasted art have appearance of a fill or stroke? The appearances can be applied such that "select same" would not recognize the art because the appearance is independent of stroke or fill colors which are applied directly to the path. For example, groups can have appearance with a stroke & stroke color, but no shapes in the group actually have a stroke.

Tomorrow I will upload eps or send link to file plus some screenshots. Machine shut down for the night.
Appreciate help.

Hi
have uploaded zip with raw eps, eps pasted, actions and template file. So if you do get time, just run the Actions and see what happens.
Thanks

Okay, the problem is that your saved graphic style is not the same color as your art colors. You try to select fill and stroke, but it's choosing the RGB color in the graphic style. To make it work correctly, you must replace the color in the graphic style to be the spot color "New color 1 1 0 0"
You can check by looking at Appearance Panel when your graphic style is selected in the Graphic Styles panel. When you double click the color swatch of your fill, you will either see an unnamed RGB color or a named Spot color.

Umm… might want to place the "Correct Answer" on the post with the answer.
