Unable to use eraser tool

Hello

I am barely mins into my first Illustrator exposure. So please bear with my query.

I have a workflow image (jpeg), which I vectorized using the Tracing option. Now I wish to go into the text elements of that workflow and delete them, and add new text elements. Now in order to do this, I clicked on the eraser tool, but when I draw my cursor over the image, all I get is an indication that the image or the layers are locked ( pencil with a cross icon). But I checked and image and its layers are unlocked.

So can someone please guide me where I am going wrong with my workflow.

Regards

Ashim

It is possible that after using Image Trace that you did not click the Expand button.

If you select the traced image, you should see the Expand button in the Control panel where the Image Trace button used to be.
