Hello.

I got my new mac few days ago and I have some problem In Illustator.

Everything works fine and fast in Illustrator.

But when I try to ungroup or unlock the objects, it freezes for a moment and took so long.

Anyone have same issue with me? Please help me if you know how to fix this problem

Which system and version is it?

How many objects in the group?

Does this also happen in a new document with new objects?

My system is mac mini m2 pro 16gb Sonoma 14.4 and Illustrator version is 2024(version 28.5). It happens regardless of the quantity of objects. It also happens with only few objects(4~5 objects, no links, no gradient, only vector). Sometimes ungrouping objects works right away but sometimes it freezes for 4~5seconds with same objects. This also happen in a new document with new object.

Hello @주헌이,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind updating Illustrator (https://adobe.ly/46jwCvk) / macOS (https://adobe.ly/3zPJM7a) to the latest version and checking if it helps? Also, try the suggestions shared in this help article (https://adobe.ly/3WhGT6L) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

@주헌이have you tried reducing the load on your GPU by adjusting Illustrator preferences? You can start by disabling Animated Zoom, as this feature can be resource-intensive. If this doesn't resolve the issue, try deactivating Real-Time Drawing. Finally, reducing the number of History States can also help free up processing power. Test each change individually to determine its impact.

The amount of RAM on your new Mac will also impact performance. While 16GB is sufficient for many users, more RAM generally leads to better results. To optimize performance, close unnecessary background apps, especially those consuming significant resources like video streaming services (Netflix) or music streaming. Additionally, limiting the number of open browser tabs can help.

I have this same problem too. When I unlock something it seems to take quite a while. Sometimes I see all the ancors highlighting accross the screen as if illustrator is scanning the nodes

Hello @Ashkey6C12,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator and a screen recording of your workflow and the problem, so I can better assist you?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have this exact same issue. When multi shapes on the screen are grouped and then ungrouped there is a delay ..then there's this weird glitch where the shape nodes highlight a trail leading up to where your cursor is. Ive tried different amounts of shapes to see if its an overload issue , and it still occurs with low amounts of shapes. It creates this strange stickiness to the workflow where you're constantly lagging and waiting for the processing to keep up. The highlighting of nodes is a real weird glitch though. Seeing it scan through all the nodes up towards your cursor. Yesterday I ran through 3x adobe troubleshooter techs who ended up just leaving my session because they couldn't solve it. Spent 3.5 hours with them and zero remedy. Its been occurring for months now.

Hello @kenmlau,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind confirming if you're still having trouble with Illustrator. If yes, kindly try updating to the latest version of Illustrator to see if it helps. Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

I have tried reinstalling illustrator to the latest, several times.

I have also tried previous versions.

I have uninstalled the adobe suite completely and reinstalled.

The glitch is still there.

Suspect it might be the osx Sonoma

Hello @kenmlau,

Thank you for the detailed update. Since the glitch persists even after multiple troubleshooting steps, it might be worth testing the specific file to see if it’s related to file content.

Could you please package your file, including any linked assets, compress it into a ZIP folder, and upload it to a file-sharing platform (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer)? Share the link here, and I’ll check it on macOS Sonoma to investigate further.

Looking forward to your response!

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
