I am having trouble importing PDF files with Urdu typing on them and editing them. I have just upgraded my Mac OS to Sonama, which in turn upgraded my Illustrator version to the latest one. Prior to this update, I was able to import Urdu PDFs and edit them.
Now, when I try to open a file, the following prompt appears:
I have Urdu installed on my computer. How can I allow Illustrator to encode the text as Urdu?

Hello @Moses36660239bz9t,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind checking if Illustrator behaves this way only with some files? If yes, kindly share a public link to a sample file after uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc. so we can check it on our end.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Hello @alfahad_5418,
Would you mind providing some details about the circumstances under which these files were saved or edited, and the location of the files where they were stored? For example, were there any unexpected Illustrator crashes, sudden app closures, system shutdowns, or power cuts during the editing process?
Also, kindly share a link to a sample file after uploading it to Dropbox/Google Drive/etc, so we can check it on our end. Although we cannot guarantee a successful recovery, we will try our best to do so.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Was the language setting for the illustrator update set to your language in the Creative Cloud App?

@Rene Andritsch Yes, I have only been using the English version of Illustrator. Only sometimes I type and edit Urdu as well.
@Anubhav M It is only with some files. Sometimes it returns blank. Sometimes it breaks text into small images. The rare ocassion, I am able to successfully edit the text.
This is an example of a file that breaks the text into smaller images: https://leafcanada-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/albertkamran_leafcanada_org/ER7qz2rgIahAjy1wN0eG...
This is an example of a file, that takes all the text, and treats it as one big image: https://leafcanada-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/albertkamran_leafcanada_org/EVQARA2Dua1BqoQiZZHT...

Hello @Moses36660239bz9t,
Thank you for providing the examples and additional details. It seems like the issue might be related to how the PDF files are being saved or stored.
When Illustrator displays the text as small images or treats it as one big image, it indicates that the text is not recognized as editable text but rather as outlined shapes or images. This can happen if the PDF files were not saved with editable text capabilities or if they were corrupted during storage or transfer.
Could you please share the original Illustrator files for these PDFs so that we can investigate further?
This will help us determine if there are any specific issues with the files themselves or if there's a compatibility issue with the latest Illustrator version.
Looking forward to your response.
Best regards,
Anshul Saini

Thanks for reaching out! To help you better, could you please confirm the following:
1. Your current version of Adobe Illustrator
2. Your macOS version (e.g., macOS Sonoma 14.x)
Also, it would be very helpful if you could:
- Share a screen recording showing your workflow from opening the file to the point where the dialog box appears.
- Share the problematic file with us. If it contains confidential information, feel free to send it via DM or use any public cloud file-sharing service (like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.) and post the downloadable link here.
Once we have this information, we'll be in a better position to investigate and assist you further.
Looking forward to your response!
Abhishek
