URGENT!!! How to duplicate illustrator artwork with its layers to a different Illustrator file?

I need help in just illustrator, I have a pc computer. I just want to know the steps to take in copying a Group of layers (Artwork) into another illustrator file without losing the ability to edit layers.

    working - found out that selection must be made from the Artbod , not through the layers window

    Enable "paste remembers layers" in the clipboard preferences.
