I'm not sure why this started happening, but now whenever I click on the font menu and start typing the name of a font, Illustrator crashes. I normally use Suitcase Fusion 6, but I've tried restarting the computer, quitting Suitcase, removing the font activation plugin, uninstalling Suitcase, deleting Illustrator's preferences, deleting Illustrator and reinstalling, and even installing an older version... nothing helps. Any other ideas?

Are you talking about Illustrator's Character dialog? If you are, that could be corrupt preference file or a corrupt menu op. Can you backup from Time Machine?

Yes... trashing preferences, deleting Illustrator, and installing an older or newer version of Illustrator doesn't help. Booting into safe mode or from a backup doesn't help, either. I guess maybe it sounds like a corrupt font issue, but Suitcase doesn't have to be running for it to happen, and I don't think I have any fonts installed anywhere except for system fonts. I'm about to resort to reinstalling the whole operating system.
