This issue has been plaguing me for a while now. It's occured across all versions of illustrator from roughly 2021 to 2024 and across different MacBook pro's, both M2 and M3. I have reached out to Adobe's technical team who could not offer me any assistance without a screen recording or remote access which I can't do on a company machine.
The issue itself is pretty self explanatory: I have a simple object selected with any linear/radial gradient applied, I push G to bring up the gradient slider tool and it immediately sets my transparency to 0. The transparency shows up as being unedited on the transparency window, ie: it still reads as 100% or 50% or whatever it was, the but object itself is completely transparent. If I then try to manually change the transparency back to 100% nothing happens and illustrator seems to hang for a few seconds. I ususally have to undo 5 or 6 times to get back to a state where my object is back to it's previous tranparency setting. I believed it may have been a keyboard binding setting as I usually set my "Trim view" to cmd 4 but I've since stopped doing it and the problem has persisted. I've also tried resetting my preferences which briefly solves the problem, but it does come back. I've also tried reinstalling without saving preferences multiple times to the same effect, the problem is briefly solved but eventually starts back up again.
I haven't found a single thing online about anyone else encountering this issue and would appreciate if any assistance as it is rather frustrating and I work with gradient's a lot.

Can we get a screen recording?
I've never seen that behaviour. Do you have some third party app or system extension interfering? Some keyboard thingy? What happens when you boot into Safe Mode? Can you then reproduce it?
This is also not a beta system of some sort?

Thank you Monika, I've reported your response and I will wait for someone who can assist without the snotty remarks.
For the record, NDA's are standard practice at large agencies and apply to screen records and remote access.

This is a public forum. 95% of people are posting in their spare time. We do not get paid.
And I guess most people are aware of NDAs. What you could do: draw a rectangle, reproduce the behaviour and make a screenrecording of it.
And again: does it still happen when you boot into Safe Mode? https://support.apple.com/de-de/guide/mac-help/mh21245/mac#:~:text=Turn%20on%20or%20restart%20your,B...

I can't reproduce on Windows 11, AI 28.7.1
If you can't allow Adobe support remote access or send screen recordings yourself, you need to contact your organisation's IT department and get them to do it or otherwise enable it.

Hello @Reinhard300351076dg1,
Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind confirming if Illustrator behaves this way with all files? Also, it would help if you could share a screen recording of your workflow and the problem using any sample file so I can check it with the team.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Yes it's happened across a variety of illustrator files.
I've contacted my IT department about screen recordings and I wont be able to share it here, he will setup a meeting with our organisations adobe account manager to go over it.
