Variable Width Profile Not Smooth

I'm trying to use variable width strokes to create text. It works pretty well except when I get to the S's. I know this is a pretty extreme width variation, but I still can't figure out why it won't come out smooth. Any suggestions?

Strange things happen when you pull the bezier handles to far out

Expanding better explains why this happens.

Can you post a copy of the file, with dropbox or similar?

You might need to check the anchors of that path. Are they extreme?

But still: the curves might just be too tight.
