Question

Version 28.5 has some issues.

I updated my Illustrator to 28.5 at the beginning of the week, but today I had to roll back to 28.4.1. I was having terrible issues with long wait times for copy and paste, I was getting so many "not responding" alerts, but most frustrating of all were the issues with dragging objects and panning with the hand tool. I layout pages for parts manuals and I am constantly arranging views on pages. I struggled with not being able to move any objects around on the page. I would select the object, illustrator would brielfy stop responding and I'd get the spinning cursor. Once the object was selected, trying to move it was a problem. More often than not, I just couldn't move it unless I waited for 10 to 20 seconds. I'd have the object highlighted, click on it to drag it, and I would have to keep the mouse button pressed and slowly drag the mouse. After waiting the 10 to 20 seconds, and another "not responding" message, I could move it. It was taking FOREVER to get my job done! Placing text was also another ordeal. I place my text tool where I wanted it, and it might or might not place the text cursor. If it did, then wahtever I typed would take several seconds to appear. Hopefully these issues are addressed quickly. I'm back to 28.4.1 and it instantly fixed my issues.

Terrible issues on my side too after updating to 28.5. Working on a macbook pro M1 MAX with Sonoma 14.5 and Illustrator won't even finish loading the working tool window, it just freezes halfway through. Also the precedent version (28.4 & 28.4.1) was quite bugged with lots of freezes that oftel led to crashes of the whole program.

Hello @niguloto,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Also had issues. Also had to go back to ver 28.4.1 for Illustrator to load and function.

28.4.1 loaded and works, but all my preferences were lost. Awesome.

I lost all of my preferences as well. I think it was still faster to restore all of my preferences than to deal with how slow the latest update was. But, I bet we got some cool new Generative AI features instead!

Hello @B_C_E_75,

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind trying to manually reset Illustrator's preferences after installing Illustrator 28.5 and checking if it helps:

For macOS

• Close all Adobe applications.

• Go to the following locations

• ~/Library/Caches

• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

• ~/Library/Preferences

• Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings.old

• Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

For Windows

- Close all Adobe applications.

- Go to Location C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe

- Rename Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator - 28 Settings.old

- Relaunch Illustrator from Creative Cloud

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders, the location of which is mentioned above.

Also, try running Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
