Question

What is wrong with Illustrator 28.3 update?

I have to frequently restart Illustrator because its main control menu on top becomes irresponsive. That did not happen before. I have a Macbook Pro Apple M1 Max with Sonoma 4.3.1

No other app in the creative suit behaves like that.

This is extremely annoying.

I agree, Max. But it's beyond just "annoying." As a graphic designer who bills clients by the hour, I cannot fairly invoice for all the additional time required to use the current version of Illustrator. I have been using Illustrator since the early '90s, and was it was always an effective, reliable and enjoyable program to use. But now I feel Adobe should be paying me to use the software instead of the other way around. As has happened all too frequently lately, I just spent hours working on a client project that should have taken only an hour. I cannot bill my client for that time, so I'm losing money and time, while also experiencing great frustration. Few of the suggested "fixes" seem to work, and the only use for these forums is to vent!

This is an old thread and Maxx has never returned. So obviously something has been solved.

So which system do you have? What exactly is not working?

Which fixes did not work?

Nope. The top menu still becomes irresponsive every now and then, and an Illustrator restart must be performed in order to keep working. And yes, still annoying.

There are inexplicable issues with Sonoma.

You can try and update Sonoma to 14.4 and see if that helps.

Hello @Maxx Bono,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind trying to manually reset Illustrator's preferences and checking if it helps:

For macOS

• Close all Adobe applications.

• Go to the following locations

• ~/Library/Caches

• ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

• ~/Library/Preferences

• Rename Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings.old

• Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Note: Location starting with this "~" sign indicates the User Library, which is hidden. So, you need to copy & paste the exact path in spotlight search or from Finder Menu > Go > Go to Folder > Paste the location in the dialog box like this:

Disclaimer: Please note that renaming preferences folders will remove all the custom settings, and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also save a backup of the folders in case you want to. The location is mentioned above.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
