Question

What tools do I use to place and image within die cut lined box and "cut" excess outside of box?

I have a box I made with some odd angles to the sides of it that is a PDF file that I can open in Adobe Illustrator.

I need to "place" a 300DPI piece of artwork onto the odd angled box and "die cut" or "Clip mask" the art work parts

that are OUTSIDE the edges of the odd angled box.

The "odd angled box" was made in Sketchup and exported into a PDF and then opened up in Illustrator.

I can PLACE the image art ontop of the the "odd angled box" and I go to "Object" then Clipping Mask

but it does not "crop" the art image that I want to add to the box to the outside edges of the box.

I need to "TRIM" the excess parts of the art work image outside the box and delete them while

still keeping the parts of the art image inside the box.

I first have to vectorize the art image by the way in or to "resize" the image to the size of the box

so that I don't lose any quality of the art image, right?

Then what do I do?

If you want to make a clipping mask from the box, you will need to position the image below the box.

Then select both and use Object > Clipping Mask > Make

    Thank you Tom Fredericks.

As stated in the link below. I guess I have to "Send Backwards" the art image that I want to PLACE and clip mask.

Yes, the clipping mask has to be above the image, you can see the stacking order in the layers panel.
