Hi!

What tools would you recommend to alter/customize type in Illustrator? I am trying to learn how to illustrate with type and would love some resources and tips on what tools I should learn more about to work with type in Illustrator.

Thank you!

Welcome to the world of Typography!

Also check the Type-Panel with the filter options… and of course Adobe Fonts (former Adobe Typekit) with tons of cool Fonts to use in your projects…

Cool! I'm sure you'll get really good feedback on your post. A coupld suggestions I have would be to get familiar with the Character Panel, use the Appearance Panel, play with the Touch Type tool, look up how to apply Opacity Masks, use some of the Envelope Distort functions and use some Live Effects from the Effects Menu at the top. If your text doesn't have to be Live Text, you can use the Direct Selection tool, Pentool and Pathfinder functions to make some cool alterations or even create a brush out of your outlined text.
