All of a sudden, when I draw shapes there is a black stroke. I can't figure out how to remove it as there is no stroke applied. I have checked under GPU and CPU. is there another place I should check? I included a screenshot showing all of the areas I have checked and there is no stroke indicated. TIA for any help.

It sounds like there is a stroke applied to the layer.

If you copy and paste that item into a new document do you get the same results in the appearance panel?

Thank you. That was it. All this time and I didn't even know that could be done. Well, I suspect this is one way to remember that it can be done by layer. Thanks again for the help.

You're welcome.

Layer strokes can be useful, since they can be sent to the back of the layer art. You can also get some intereseting looks when you apply the Offset Path effect.
