I will just use the rectangle tool as you can see my cursor is clicked on when i left click and drag to make a rectangle or any shape it comes out like that according to the colors i have chosen. This randomly started happening I'm not sure if I chose an option that could've activated this. Im a newbie and beginning to learn by the way.

The tool was fine or at the normal setting it was when i first used it.

Since your Stroke says it is set for 1 point in your control panel it may be that your preferences have become corrupted.

To delete and reset Illustrator preferences:

For Macintosh Users: With Illustrator closed launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the following two files and delete them: “Adobe Illustrator <Version #> Settings” (earlier versions of Illustrator might just say “Adobe Illustrator”) and “com.adobe.Illustrator.plist”. When Illustrator is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

After you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, it is a really good idea to create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

For Windows Users: Hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift when launching Illustrator and respond affirmatively when asked if you want to reset.

I'm no expert by your zoom level is set at 16635%. At that scale a stroke weight of 1 pt is going to look like that. I'm not sure why your artboard is so small but try to work in real size or close to it (i.e. 100%)

I tested drawing a very tiny box with a one point rule and viewed it at the 16625% and it did not look like the example shown. At that magnification the stroke of even a tiny box zooms out of the viewing area on a 21 inch screen. Upon using the hand tool to find the stroke I found that it does not look at all like the disproportionate stroke shown here. I would still suggest deleting the preference files.

Hi Bill,

Try zooming in at 16625% then draw your box : it will fit and the stroke

will look fat as hell.

Cheers,

Thierry
