While selecting an object, the cursor will click elsewhere in Illustrator.

Since updating to Illustrator 2019 I've been having problems using the program at all.
I've been unable to make selections or even copy/paste, as the key commands do not seem to be working, and objects that I've selected will deselect themselves. When I'm trying to change a size, for example, between me selecting the box and beginning to type, the cursor will seemingly click elsewhere. As a result, I've had to change one number at a time, and it is a very slow process between clicking and trying to fit in as much as possible before I have to reselect.
This problem also exists when using the menus, so I haven't been able to check on my preferences or anything like that to see if something is amiss there.
The problem is on my work computer, so reinstalling is not very easy and I'm hoping to find another workaround.
Thanks!

I've since uninstalled and reinstalled several times, restarting the computer between. All of the other CC programs I use are working just fine, but in Illustrator the mouse continues to intermittently flash to a busy cursor

safiyya,
Some have downdated to the earlier (working) version, and are waiting it out until issues are solved.

I've done that for now, but other members of my team are using the latest version, so that's leaving me kinda stuck

Safyaa,
You may have a look into possible differences in OS or other computer properties or settings, comparing with the others at work.
Or, you may (re)consider the unwanted; in this connexion, a full reinstallation may be relevant,
A) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences),
B) Run the Cleaner Tool, and
C) Reinstall.

Safyaa,
As it is, I believe you will need help from the design team at Adobe.
You should know that there has been a forum change, and currently all threads are ordered by the time they were started instead of by the time of last post.
Therefore, this thread is so far down the list that no one will see but ourselves as the hitherto participants: we get notifications of threads we have participated in; I have turned email off but I see it on my About page, you can get to yours by clicking your avatar at the top right corner.
I have tried to send an email to the leader of the design team, and I hope another of our Adobe friends may try to help here, following the link I included.
You may also try a chat with Customer Support, but I believe they will just suggest your posting here in the forum.

And I am afraid that starting a new thread will only leave you with two sinking threads.

Ah, Monika.
I take it to mean that you see an email every single time anything is posted in our forum. That must be quite a number, especially once the usual level is reached.

Hi Safiya,
We are so sorry to hear about this issue. As you have already tried multiple steps including uninstalling Illustrator with cleaner tool, it looks like one-on-one support will be able to help you best. Please head here (https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html) and select the chat button in the lower-right corner of the page. We can help troubleshoot faster that way.
