White LInes Illustrator Anti Aliasing

Hello, I always seem to have issues with this, sometimes things look amazing and other times they don't, there is no rhyme or reason for this. When uploading images of my surface pattern designs from Illustrator to my website or InDesign, as either jpg, png, or pdf, depending on which one doesn't look too hideous because of the white lines, a lot of the time the white lines appear. If I turn off anti aliasing, sometimes, the lines disappear, but then it looks like a hot mess of pixelation. I have also tried to round the output of the vector prior to exporting as jpg, png or pdf to full numbers ie 4cm instead of 4.023cm to try and control the issue, but does not necessarily work all the time. I seemed to have gone a few years with no issues then bam! Issues. Maybe each update of Illustrator influences it also? Is this an Adobe issue or a monitor/proportion issue? Thanks very much.

To avoid anti-aliasing, it is usefull to use round numbers. Unfortunately round numbers do not work with centimeters as units. Displays and images work with pixels, so it is usefull to set your units to pixels (or points) and use round numbers when creating your pattern tiles. Your example of 4 cm would convert to 113,3858 px and is garanteed to give an additional pixel.

Can you give some more details?

What are the dimensions in pixels of your pattern tile?

At what resolution do you export?

What file format? What type of anti-aliasing?

hi thanks for replying ,
well i design for garment brands making seamless prints. So I count in
centimeters not in pixels. Let's say 30cmX30cm, Resolution in Tiff at
300ppi because this is the file type everybdy wants - even though I send
also an EPS file. The Antialliasing is ticked in the export box ( i dont
know the type). But I have tried even by un - selecting the anti
aliasing or even reverting to pixels to be more precise .. nothing. I send
it to the printing facility and they tell me that they see fine white lines
! In the meantime when i put the file on a PS garment mockup duplicating
the seamless design as many times as i have to in order to cover the
entire cloth , in some parts lines they show and some others they dont..
Really i m desperate.. i make entire maquettes for a whole roll ( 155cm !!)
placing on the background a gigantic layer of single color so as the lines
to show in a smaller printing surface but this is time consuming for me and
I cant keep working like that . Please if you have any idea help as I must
be doing something wrong

How do you create your pattern tiles, drag them from the swatches panel, fill a rectangle the size of the repeating tile?

For Illustrator it does not matter if you are using cm or px, but when you export as an image you must use pixels, because that’s what images are made of. It is easy to switch units, just ctrl click in the rulers.

Your 30 cm will become 850,3937 px, but because a 0,3937 pixel does not exist it will be rounded. Using 300 ppi resolution will cause fractional pixels too.

Another important factor is the anti-aliasing method. Unfortunately the default is type optimized which will excaggerate the anti aliasing artefacts. Check that option in the settings and change it to Art Optimized.

Thank you so much, switching into pixels while exporting must be the
solution. Art optimised is my selection anyway in the anti aliasing. Ill
try and get back to you.
Thanks again.
