I keep trying to draw a line, but the line keeps disapearing on me.

As Ton mentions, the stroke color is white. Change the stroke color to another color, such as black.

It disappears because it is a white line on a white background.

In addition to Ton’s answer, which is correct, you now have several white lines that you need to delete. You can go to View > Outline or use the Layers panel, to name two methods to find them.
