One reason could be the placement options that are not commonly used, but might have been applied.

I'm not sure how much more specific I can be than "change position"... I update a placed raster image and the image moves from the position on the page where it was to another position where it was not.

Just a remark: 95% of people answering questions here are volunteers. We are doing this in our spare time. So does it just change by 2 pixels or is it wildly different? Any observations can help us help you.
