Question

Window moves when opening another .ai file

Hello,

I am expiriencing a rather sh*tty bug/problem. I am working in Indesign and illustrator in splitscreen (50/50) mode. When I am opening another illustrator file the window moves to a random (so it seems) position on my monitor. The 2 open files are within the same window but the second file (newly opened) dictates the position of the window. I think its not related to how (at what position) i've closed it the last time. It looks like it opens to a random position (sometimes to the full left, or bottom or top). I've tried a lot of things like application frame, every button in the UI interface menu, even solutions from indesign and acrobat but without any succes.

Am i looking in the wrong place or is this something that simply cannot be fixed?

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Mark.y.Mark,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, macOS System Report (https://adobe.ly/3JwGXJJ), and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3Ucjse6), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hello Anubhav,

Company policy restricts me from making screenrecordings. My OS is win10pro 22H2, Illustrator 28.4.1

See attached 3 screenshots;  1st is Illustrator with file 'test 1' opened. 2nd is opening 'test 2' from folder. 3rd is new windowlocation. I hope this is sufficient!

Fyi; I cannot see that illustrator is installed on my pc from within CC.. It says there that only acrobat is installed even though Indesign and Illustrator are as well.

Hello @Mark.y.Mark,

Thanks for sharing the details. To investigate further, would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows) to check if it helps? Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (Windows) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav
