Wrap a group around a cylinder (to maintain editable art)?

Is this possible?

Scenario: I'm making a label that I want to mock up by "wrapping" it around a 2d bottle (which is a placed image). The label is comprised of both vector and raster images. In my case I have 4 labels, and 2 or 3 concepts for each set of 4 labels.

I've noodled with the 3D classic options by creating a cylinder and wrapping a graphic symbol to imitate the label wrapping around the bottle, which works really well and I'm happy with how it looks.

HOWever... what I'd like to be able to do is to use a placed Ai file and wrap it around a cylinder. I get an error message that says "3D and Materials effect currently works only on some object types..." so obviously what I want to do isn't an option. (Making a feature request once I finish this post...)

I want to do this in this way because I often have to go back and edit the label contents. Obviously, making a symbol for every instance of these labels is time and labor intensive. I'm looking for a way to make the change to the label and then update links.

Is this something that can be done? Am I approaching it the wrong way? I appreciate any advice, thank you. Now I am off to see if I can do this with Ps.

Thanks!

(Note: the new Mockup tool doesn't support raster.)

Have you tried this? It works with vector and png (these are the file types I've tried). Unfortunately, I don't see an option for editing the graphic and the label automatically updating.

However, I've found Adobe Substance 3D Stager to be amazing for this. You just update/replace the linked graphic, and the position remains the same. Maybe something to consider?

@Tina_Irvine Yes, that's exactly what I want to do. I will ask our Enterprise Subscription Admin if we have access to Substance 3D. It's not currently showing in my lineup of apps available with my subscription. If we have it, she may be able to turn it on for me. Thanks!

You're very welcome @dDembicki. The Substance line-up is a different subscription from All Apps so this could be why.
