Hello,
I am currently trying to figure out how to set my mouse up so that I can use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Every answer I have come across says to check off the "zoom with scroll wheel" box in the preferences. Unfortunately that option does not exist in my general preferences, nor any of the other preferences tabs.

That might be in a different application.
If you have some third party mouse control system extension, maybe that can do what you want.
Other than that: please add a feature request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. Zoom with scroll wheel is possible if you press ALT with it.
Let us know if this helps or if you need any further help.
Regards,
Srishti

I agree. It's bad design to have to use a different setup for this in Illustrator over PS when there is no reason for them not to be the same.
Sometimes I feel like there is the same infighting at Adobe preventing innovations and cross compatability that there was at microsoft products in the Balmer and earlier days.

Ahem.
There *is* an option to use the mouse wheel for zooming. This thread is just old. https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/31672087-zo...

Great! Thanks for pointing this out. I retract my comment and now proceed to do a face plant followed by a disco happy dance prance.
