ZWJ Emojis Keep Splitting

How can I get Illustrator to render emojis with varied skintones like these in the Apple Color Emoji font without having to select them from the Glyphs pannel? I'm trying to paste hundreds into a file and struggling

What program are you pasting Emojis into Illustrator from?

I pasted Emojis from my email, as a font, into Illustrator and it worked.
