Animated zoom not performing the same after a fresh install

When I use the shortcut Ctrl + Space + Click drag, a box is drawn and zooms in when I release the mouse, instead of gradually zooming as I move the mouse. It used worked before I formatted my computer and installed Illustrator on the new system. Before the format I could use animated zoom just fine. Since the format and reinstall animated zoom isn't working. Even though I have Animated Zoom checked in the Performance tab in Settings, it still isn't working as it did before. How I can get the behavior of animated zoom back?
