Assign designs to paths

Hey dear community!

In Illustrator I want to create an experimental illustrative font based on cigarettes. Below you can see a sketch of the start and end of the cigarette. Is it possible to create some kind of template in Illustrator, to assign this design to the paths of the letters? This would make it a whole lot easier to create an entire typeset.

Other ideas how to realize this are highly welcome
