The generation of the filename does not come from Illustrator but your OS.

If you want to do this in the finder, I have an action script for doing exactly what you ask.

copy file here

\Users\YOURNAME\Library\Services\Insert Date.workflow

http://files.kaleidoscopechicago.com/_VuyDFNC-HTfprR

Insert Date.workflow.zip

33 KB

The URL will expire on Feb 24.

You have to configure key command here.

Will then replace in the finder anything text you have selected with the date

ENJOY!  Does not work when you are saving a file in the open window though. >.<

I use (and can recommend) a little smart programme called aText to do that. Among many other things you can define keyboard shortcuts to add the current date while saving any file.

Also, when you want to apply (creator) dates to a whole bunch of files at the same time, there is an app called NameChanger that is recommendable as well.
