Blue Circleand re when running Illustrator

I'm getting the blue 'waiting' circle when running Illustrator.

I get it only on 1 machine (this machine) on the network.

All other machines don't have this problem.

Only get this problem with Illustrator. Photoshop and other creative cloud apps work fine.

When I run Illustrator on this machine, the Blue Rotating Circle is continually running/turning.

I cannot access any menus or do anything when this circle is turning, and hence I cannot do anything in  Illustrator on this machine.

I have removed the program from the machine and re-installed from the Creative Cloud main page.

I have removed the preferences on the last re-install.

The problem persists.

Please advise

    Hi and Thanks,

    To answer your questions:

The computer meets the requirements for Illustrator. Please see attached screen shot of the System.

This problem started happening a couple of months ago. We don’t use Illustrator much and so we’ve been able to work around it. But this situation is not satisfactory.

We have successfully run illustrator on this machine previously.

This is a Windows 10 machine.

The problem exists when Illustrator is the only application running.

While Illustrator runs, the blue spinning circle is visible with other programs but does not seem to affect their functionality.

For example, I started Illustrator on its own, the blue spinning circle starts towards the end of Illustrator starting up.

I then started Outlook. The blue spinning circle can be seen when Outlook, but doesn’t affect Outlook functioning.

I close Illustrator and the blue spinning circle disappears quickly.

I have taken a video of all of this.

How do you wish me to send you the video.

    Kind Regards,

This might be caused by the OOBE folder.

You could try resetting it as described by Mike in here: Illustrator crashes on startup

Did this just start happening? Have you run Illustrator successfully on this computer before? Is this a Windows or Mac computer? What version of OS?

here are the system requirements for Illustrator CC (2017): Adobe Illustrator system requirements

One other thing you can try is JUST running Illustrator on the computer, don't run any other programs.

Is this only when you work on a particular file? And does the spinning wheel appear when you work on that same file on another computer?

If the other computer has no issues working on the same file, then it might be worth checking the computer set-up and compare between the different machines

    • How much hard disk space you have left
    • How much RAM system has

To help speed up Illustrator performance consider:

    • Running disk defragmentation.
    • Assigning a different hard drive as a scratch disk (Preferences > Plug-ins & Scratch Disks).
    • If you are running third party-plug-ins try disabling to see if it makes a difference.
    • If the illustration uses a lot of transparency type effects, lower the document raster effects settings resolution while you are working on the job (Effects > Document Raster Effects Settings)

    H and ...

The blue spinning wheel is NOT related to any file. We can open a file on another machine and work successfully with it there.

The blue spinning wheel exists only with Illustrator. All other programs, including all other Creative Cloud programs run without problem.

The blue spinning wheel starts when Illustrator is starting up. I don't know when, during Illustrator start-up, the blue spinning wheel starts. The blue spinning wheel runs with no file open, before any new file created and before any file is opened.

The blue spinning wheels prevents any action from being taken. A menu option might be selected and momentarily available. The blue spinning wheel will then take control and the menu selection no longer available.

This prevents anything being done within Illustrator.

It seems like some instruction within Illustrator is continually being called and this continually takes control of the program preventing any user interaction.

I suspect RAM and disc space is not a problem as Illustrator has worked on this machine previously. The machine is little utilised for disk space.

How much RAM and disk space is required?

The problem is not one related to speed so I believe your last 4 dot points are not relevant. In any event, the blue spinning disc problem will prevent changing any program setup.

I have removed and reinstalled the program 2 times today. I removed all The program preferences the second time. The problem is unchanged after each uninstall and reinstall.

    Please advise

Hi and it seems this problem has not been resolved.

I deleted the file opm.db in the … ‘AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE’ folder.

I have to close Creative Cloud to do so.

This seemed to fix the spinning blue circle problem but …

The program seems to create a new opm.db file when Illustrator starts up.

The problem of the blue spinning circle has returned practically immediately.

However, the behaviour seems a bit different.

It is not appearing when Illustrator opens and when there is no file open.

The blue spinning circle appears when a file is opened.
