You will need to modify the New Document Profiles that you use the most. Go to HD/Users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator (current version)/en_US/New Document Profiles and select the file you wish to modify. The keyboard shortcut to enable Rulers is Cmd(Ctrl)-R. Make any other changes you want and save over the file in the folder listed above. Restart AI and try the new New Document Profile you have changed.

    Hi there,

In addition to Larry's suggestion, I would also suggest trying templates: Work with files and templates in Illustrator .

    Hope it helps!
