Cant edit a PDF anymore on Illustrator

So I created this PDF on Illustrator CS6 and every time I was just opening the pdf file on ai and edit on it. I didnt save it as a ai document. And now I formatted my PC. I installed Illustrator 2020, the PDF opened as an uneditable image. Then I installed CS6 but the same happened. Is there a way to open that PDF file as an editable document again or is it already too late?

In Illustrator 2020 the file is probably just not embedded.

In previous version take a look at the layers panel and release the clipping masks.
