Coustard Font Changes When Expanded/Enlarged

I'm encountering a strange type issue while creating a logo with the Coustard Font.

I've installed the font on my Macbook Pro running latest OSX and am using Adobe Illustrator CC.

When I go to manipulate the font the font literally changes (see attached photo). This includes enlarging, zooming in, expanding, rasterizing, etc.

Is this due to the font or just a setting in Illustrator?

Justin,

Are you working with the lactual font as live Type, or an outlined version?

In any case, you should know that Illy is particularly particular about the quality of fonts, because she can work with them at a deeper/higher level than most, so you can easily have a font that works in all other applications, but Illy refuses to recognize it as a font.

Some failing fonts discussed in earlier threads have turned out to have rather basic flaws, such as redundant, superfluous, or (if I remember rightly) even stray points, or other clear errors in the paths that they consist of.

So if the font is flawed, you may need to look for similar fonts that Illy is willing to work with.

There may also be something funny about GPU preview, so if you have that on, you may try toggling between GPU and CPU with Ctrl/Cmd+E, or you may try disabling the GPU Performance by clicking the Rocket Icon in the App bar, or on the top of the menu bar, and deselecting the GPU Performance check box; you may also uncheck GPU Performance in your Preferences.

Although this question has an answer, there's a video on how to workaround this with Coustard and other problem fonts: How to Outline Problem Fonts Like Google's Coustard in Illustrator with Creative Cloud - YouTube

Thanks for the response, Jacob.

I'm working with Coustard as a live font. I disabled the GPU and it seemed to resize it ok at first, but once I expanded the font it reverted back to the morphed version pictured above.

So even Google Fonts may have these types of flaws?

You are welcome, Justin.

You may try to outline and have a look for more obvious/basic flaws as mentioned, such as redundant, superfluous, or even stray points, or other clear errors in the paths that they consist of.

If there are some, it may be time to switch.
