I see no problems with it on Windows 10, Illustrator 25.4.1.

What OS and AI version are you using?

When did it last work properly?

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble you are facing. I agree with @Doug A Roberts this issue is not replicating on Windows 10 and macOS Big Sur v11.5.2 in Illustrator v25.4.1 and v24.3.1. I would like to know if the steps suggested above by @John Mensinger worked for you? If not, I would request you to share a few more details along with the ones asked by Doug:

  • Does this happen in all the documents?
  • Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.

Also, you may try running the app in Safe Mode (For Windows: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode For Mac: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/global/start-safe-boot-mode-mac.html)

and see if it is working there.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini

Hello @johns63782626,

We understand that encountering technical issues can be frustrating. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, details about your workflow, and a screen recording of the problem (https://adobe.ly/3wjAQFm), so we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Hi Anubhav, I'm running 28.2. Seems to be intermittent. working occasionally... ACTUALLY, I see what it is... this key command is now 'paste in front' rather than 'paste in place', lol, my bad... My desktop purposely runs an older version (to avoid these annoying changes) so it's just that my laptop has all the new csommands on it... Ignore me, thanks Anubhav.

Ctrl + F has been 'paste in front' for as many versions as I can remember.

Been a user since 2001 (not including college). Stopped at 23.1.1 (1987–2018). Got sick of all the tweaks and changes interrupting my workflow, using my desktop machine for drawing and creative work and have a laptop for teaching (fully updated), etc. Still get caught out with new 'features'... Rotate screen is another good example, can no longer select multiple shapes (Shift) while moving around the canvas (spacebar)... Anyway I love Illustrator and I guess it has to change for whatever reason.

Packaging designers are very happy about rotate canvas. They've been waiting for it like forever, actually.

No doubt, it really makes sense in that context, should deffo have its own key command. Perhaps they were out of new ones? and the existing one had to be deleted. (I wonder how many users need to rotate canvas over select and pan?)... Anway one can still 'shift-click select' but must release shift before pressing the spacebar so there is a workaround, even if it's super clunky.

No, we don't need this feature. Not at all. It's bothersome and doesn't help you at work.

No doubt... Are the majority of Adobe Illustrator users Packaging specialists? I would reckon it's pretty that's a niche minority... Anyway, it's kind of senseless to argue one over the other and polarize users when there could be separate options for both.

Cool, I'm coming in from the wild here a bit, I get it... but it makes sense for less of a one-shoe-fits-all approach tho, I guess the 'I's on the right' are greater in number within this community. Generally speaking with the Creative Suite now being a utility bill for most, it would be great if there could be more adaptability, certainly before they sell all this info to Ai companies (Ai... the irony:)

You're right.

In this forum I have seen much more users ask for rotating the canvas than people reporting the issue that you have (moving a round the canvas - you are the only one with that issue).

Really? no one ever selected multiple shapes using shift and then holding the spacebar to navigate with the hand tool? seems standard, but then apparently people have been not doing that for years now! :'D

I don't think we can know that literally, but it's not come up on the forum.

LATEST

It is Mini vMac, an emulator for the first Mac systems.

Unfortunately it becomes much harder to use on newer systems, I had to go back to my old Mac to make this screendump. I must check if there are newer versions.

That's pretty cool... What I meant was, that when I copy and then com.F it should have pasted in the same place (In front but in the same place it was copied from).

It should, as long as you have the same artboard selected.
