Embedded Subfonts Prefix Added

New Here ,
Mar 23, 2019 Mar 23, 2019

We are running into an issue with embedded subfonts and Extensis Universal Type Server. For example we have an Illustrator document with two pdfs placed as links. One of the pdfs has live text. This pdf can be opened in Illustrator without any dialogue from UTS. The other placed pdf is an image with no live text.

When the Illustrator file containing the two pdfs is opened, a Missing Original Version dialogue box is presented. The fonts from the placed pdf are listed as missing. The missing font is listed with a prefix in front of the font name. Examples below.

OAAAAA+GraphikXXCond-Medium

PAAAAA+Produkt-Semibold

The two fonts used are GraphikXXCond-Medium and Produkt-Semibold. The prefix before the regular font name does not allow UTS to find the font automatically. Close matches are presented and the user has to select a font and click next.

I opened a ticket with Extensis. They mentioned they have received other support tickets with similar issues. Apparently Illustrator is adding this subset font prefix. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, is there a way around having illustrator add the prefixes?

Thanks,

Ken

The prefix indicates tha the font has been subsetted for use in the file.
