ending an open path

Back in the day I used to be able to end an open path in Illustrator by double clicking the pen tool on the last anchor point. Adobe did away with that convenient method long ago. In a more recent previous version, I was able to end an open path by hitting the ESC key. Now in the current version I have to hit the ESC key twice in order to end an open path, which is not as convenient.

Does anyone have suggestions for quick ways to end an open path?

I usually use p on the keyboard if I want to end one and start another

or just chage to the selection tool if I'm done.

    Thanks. Those tips work well.

I still wish Adobe had kept the double-click end point to end a path. That was super convenient.
