Fans running, battery draining after latest update

Anyone else experiencing this? Since the newest update every time I launch Illustrator my 2019 16" Macbook Pro (Big Sur 11.2.3)  is runing hot, my battery is draining at an alarming rate, to the point when I plug it in my mac doesnt even want to charge at all. I have to close illustrator to charge my MBP, then when I launch again the fans start running, battery drain cranks up exponentially, and its race to get any work done before the battery is gone again. I have tried keeping everything else closed and only have Illustrator open, doesnt seem to matter. I have reset the SMC. Not sure what else to do.

Does turning off »GPU Performance« (Illustrator > Preferences > Performance > GPU Performance) and restarting the application have any bearing on the issue?
