Gradient Mesh only appears when I hover over the object, point handles missing (video attached)

This morning, I returned to a project and suddenly the Gradient Mesh only appears when I hover over the object it is applied to. The color fill still appears, but I can only see the working mesh if I bring either the Selection Tool or Direct Selection Tool directly above the object in question.

Furthermore, if I click a point on the gradient mesh, the Anchor Point Handles no longer appear. I can move the Anchor Point around, but I can no longer change the angles. 

I found that if I use the Anchor Point tool I can still manipulate the Handles, but the gradient mesh will not appear when hovering using this tool, so I basically have to search around for the Anchor Point.

Everything was working perfectly fine yesterday. The document was open all night, and when I returned to it this morning, this had begun. I've restarted the program and my computer.
