Hi,

I'm really sorry if this is completely obvious but I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. I'm a Photoshop user that's not used to Illustrator CC.

When i want to align something in the middle of a canvas in Photoshop i create guides that show me the centre point of the canvas, i do this by going to:

View > New Guide > Select orientation (horizontal or vertical) > in the 'Position' field i enter '50%' and it shows a line on the page that's exactly in the middle of my canvas.

How do i do this in Illustrator CC? Please help me.

Hold down the Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Win) key and drag guides from the ruler intersection at the top left corner.  When you have View > Smart Guides turned on it will snap to the center.

Here is a non-Photoshop way to align something to the center of the artboard in Illustrator:

  1. Select
  2. Cut (Cmd + X)
  3. Fit in Window (Cmd + 0)
  4. Paste (Cmd + V

Ton, this seems to work for me (has pretty much worked through many AI versions) without the Command key. I'm on AICC 21.1.0 and Sierra. Am I missing something?

Without the Cmd key I can only reposition the Zero Zero point, I need the Cmd key to get the 2 guides.
