Thanks for the elegant way to get the arrow. Above is mine, and it adjusts a bar in a graph. Unfortunately it is slightly distorted at the bottom of the arrow by the unstroked rectangle that hides part of the stroke for the 45-degree-rotated square. In other words, it is comprised of 3 green boxes:

I enlarged mine to 250% in a effort to get the 3 components adjusted, and the distortion just does not disappear-it appears at either the top or the bottom. Is there a better approach?

As I (mis)understand it, you may use just the stroked rhombus (the quadrilateral that is wider a rotated square) and the long rectangle:

1) Click the rightmost Anchor Point of the rhombus with the Delete Anchor Point Tool (bundled with the Pen Tool) to get a stroked triangle;

2) Select both the triangle and the long rectangle, then click the long rectangle once more and Align>Align Objects>Vertical Align Center, then Align>Distribute Spacing (set Space to 0 and) > Horizontal Distribute Space;

3) Pathfinder>Unite.
