How do I export slices as SVGs?

None of Illustrator's Export options allow for the export of slices as SVGs, only PNGs! If you want to export an SVG, you are required to export the entire artboard. It is shortsighted of Adobe to have a "Save for Web" option that does not the SVG format.

SVG is  a vector format, so automated slicing cannot be done as easily as splitting up the tiles on a bitmapped format.

If you really need to slice vector objects live svg, then use masks and artboards.

The Save for Web is a legacy tool that has been updated with better export options. SVG needs to be exported as a whole to integrate correctly in your application out your web design.

Why do you need the slices to be exported separately ? Can you describe your scenario, maybe include screenshots and version numbers so we can suggest alternative solutions.
