How to convert/export a file from illustrator to MS publisher?

Hi Everyone!

I am in a pain with some peolpe I have been helping out who is now getting a bit nasty with me,
They have asked me to change the .ai file to something they can use in MS Publisher so they can still edit it.

I have tried everything and searched everything trough.. Can't figure out how to do it, or if it is even possible?

They wrote me this:


Normally when saving a program you also have the choice to import or export to a different document type, saving the  original formats.

I need you to try and export the adobe files to MS Publisher format.  We do not want to buy Adobe Illustrator.  We do not want it used for creaing designs, logos etc as we need to be able to make changes at any time.  PLease try exporting to MS Publisher.

Exporting the document should allow us to keep layout and formats without having to convert to eps and then import through an add on filter.

I would like the brochure and all art work done to date saved in this format.

If you are unable to do this let me know


Is there anyone here who can possible tell me what do to?

MSPub will import any graphics/ image format that you can import in other Office applications, ranging from EMF/ WMF/ EPS/ PDF for vectors to BMP/PNG/TIFF for pixel graphics. There is no such thing as a specific graphics format for MSPub. Only MSPub can create (clip)art snippets, but they are essentially just trimmed Publisher documents that re-use the main document format to encapsulate other artwork, imported or created in the program. So really, your client request makes no sense whatsoever. If placing a WMF file is to much to ask, then I really don't know if anybody out there can be more inapt then them...

I would politely tell them you don't want to do it. If you are an artist, you are providing them with the final art (such as a logo), if they wish to make changes, you will be happy to do the work and provide a new file. There will be continued frustration if this person is planning to send a Publisher file to a professional printer, and they are going to try to blame you when the printer has issues. That said, You could try to export your .ai file to .wmf or .emf (as Mylenium has mentioned) or if you have Publisher, copy and paste. Expect to have issues with fonts and hope your customer knows how to convert RGB to CMYK in Publisher.

Let him who asks you to supply a file format that can accept MS Publisher, and that can continue to edit.

Each program achieves its effects creative in many ways, it is not possible that what you did in the Ai can be further edited in MS Publisher on the same level. It may be possible but for a very simple vector objects if the standard is such EPS, WMF, etc..
