How to import color palette into illustrator

Community Beginner ,

Since I am new to illustrator, I have a very simple question. I have a color palette from my company. This is the company colors. I would like to input these colors into the color palette of illustrator so I use those colors for our designs, etc. What is one way to do this?

What format is it in?

If it's a normal AI file or an ASE, select "load library" from the swatches panel's menu.

Also: see the manual on using swatches libraries.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for the reply. I do apologize I did forget to mention that format the colors are in. It is jpg format (a simple cut out of the company colors) and not the above AI file or ASE you mentioned. Is it possible to load a jpg format into illustrator?

Might be better to open the JPEG in Photoshop and create swatches there. Then you can export those swatches as ASE which you can then load into Illustrator.

In Illustrator you can include those swatches in a document profile. which you can then base your files upon.

Good advice. I just found out that there is another Adobe program that can make ASE files. It's kudler or kuhler (something like that). At least I know two ways now to import the colors.  Thank you again!

It was kuler, but is now renamed "Adobe Color". But it can only save up to 5 Colors in an ASE.

Monika, I need to consult with you further in the future. I am not a graphic designer myself because I am in charge of something else a little different in my group. I just saw your web link from Germany. Do you have my personal email?

Monika, how about this question. I am trying to create an authentic chrome finish on an image. This is the type of chrome look on a car badge/emblem such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi (your kind of cars). I am not sure how to go about it. I am assuming first the image has to be of silver color, but then I am not sure what to do next? Can you help? Thanks very much.

To get a chrome look you need to stack some (many) shapes with different kinds of gradients, maybe add some blended paths.

There are quite a lot of tutorials on the subject, e.g. http://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/quick-tip-the-real-deal-on-creating-chrome--vector-3953
