Illustrator 2020 lagging/ crashing on Windows machine

Hello,

Does anyone recognize this problem?

My Illustrator has a lagging issue. I can work with it for a number of minutes but than it starts lagging following with a crash. I've already tried installing previous versions which worked for a couple of hours but then it happened again. I'm really lost. Thanks everyone.

I've attached a screenshot of what the lagging looks like.

I would like to know if the steps suggested above worked for you, or the issue still persists. Please update the discussion if the issue is resolved or if you have any further query.

Can you check Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard?

What is set up there?

Hey Monika,

My program is in Dutch, don't know how to change that either but I hope you can still understand it if you put the English version next to it.

Can you try and turn off the:

"Recovery for large documents"

"Optimize save in slow networks"

"Save in Background"

"Export in background"

I hope you can somehow guess which ones they are ... 🙂

They tend to cause lags in some systems.

If it helps, you can of course try and test which of them exactly it is.

Shot in the dark, but one system I used was bogged down with too many fonts.  This was quite long ago like 15 years, so I'm not sure if it's even a possibility today.  But, I cleared the fonts out, and the performance issues were resolved.
