Question

Illustrator CC has poor preview quality on screen

Since upgrading to CC illustrator I'm having very poor quality rendering on screen. Placed images and fonts are particularly affected and making it impossible to preview my work or do a screen dump to send to clients;

The files renders fine on screen when saved as a PDF and viewed in Illustrator and is also ok when copied and pasted into CS5, but onscreen within illustrator CC the placed images are rendering so badly the text in them can't be read and some of my fonts are coming up fuzzy.

I can't see anywhere to set the quality of your display like you can in indesign. Please help

Turn off pixel preview. Go to the view tab and deselect.

Thanks, this has solved my issue too. Like you say, I don't know why it used to work ok in previous versions and not now.

Having read around the forums trying to find a solution, someone recommended switching off the GPU performance enhancement in prefs. See greatly improved screenshot attached here. It may slow things down a little (though this was never a problem for me before) but I can see what I am doing now. Hope that works for you too. J

@Choocywoccydoodah Thank you for your GPU Performance settings answer. It's exactly what I was looking for.

Hello, It sounds as though I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have just upgraded to AICC2015, running on Mac OS X Yosemite. The rendering on screen does seem inferior to the previous version, equally in print and web prefs. Also occurring regardless of whether it is a newly opened file or an old one. Screenshot is of a piece of text outlined to paths. Thanks in advance for any assistance. J

System info? Screenshots? Document DPI settings? Pixel grid? Color management? You need to be a lot more specific.

Mac, 10.75, currently working in a web doc but it happens in all of the presets and at all doc DPI settings. Not sure what pixel grid is (?), changing colour management doesn't alter it either.

It appears fine when saved as and viewed in another program and when copied and opened into illustrator CS5, but every doc I'm working on in CC (even old ones opened) has this poor rendering quality - and i've got docs worked in very different dpi's / settings etc.

I have trashed the Illustrator preferences files which has helped, but it's still not perfect - see text from a screen dump from Facebook placed into my illustrator file. (the screen dump has been placed smaller than actual size into illustrator so it's not been blown up further than the pixels should allow - also it previews fine when this file is saved as a PDF and viewed in acrobat. It's just the screen preview on illustrator CC.
