Illustrator - CMYK Color Mode override not working

Was not able to find a solution to my problem and I'm struggle to explain it but ill give it try.

I use to be able to link rgb images to a cmyk illustrator file and when I printed it, it would automatically override the linked images and force them cmyk. Now it appears those rgb images do not convert when printed. Now I have to convert all the images to cmyk (which is technically what I should be doing but) I'm curious why this change all of a sudden, not sure what the setting is. Thanks.

Check your printer's driver version. Maybe it needs to be updated? Also, what settings do you use in the print dialogues? What paper did you use before? Is it the same as now?

Latest version ... is never a good version number, because it does not prove that you are really on the latest version and that information will be obsolete in a few month. In addition you did not state your operating system and version.

How do you print? What is your printer?
