New Here ,
Oct 09, 2017 Oct 09, 2017

I've received an Illustrator file and it won't open or download ... instead I get a message telling me it's from a newer version of Illustrator, but mine doesn't seem to want to update, and yes, I've deleted and reloaded the disc.  Please help.  I messed around with the stupid chat function for almost an hour only to be sent here - an

seriously frustrated.

Hello Caren,

You can use the trial to save down to CS10 as shown in my earlier screenshot. This will get you through this project. But you will need to upgrade once this expires, if you have to work with files newer than CS10 again.

Adobe is very generous in allowing users to have a save command on the trial, many other softwares do not do that.

What version of Ilustraror you are on and version was the file saved with you are trying to open?

You can try making a new illustrator document and placing, or open the file in acrobat then save as .pdf and open in illustrator. This depends on if the file was saved with .pdf compatible.

If  you have an older version illustrator you can download the trial which works for s short period of time, to Save As down to an earlier version. Or ask the source of this file to do that for you.

If you are in CC 2017, then Restart your computer if you have not as that can clear things up.

Hi Mike:

I have 10.0.3 … no idea what the files sent to me are in; just that they were built in something newer.  How can I get mine to update?  I don’t want to buy the darn thing all over again – far too costly.

Thxs so much,

Caren

Have you tried the suggestions from my previous post

  • making a new illustrator document and placing the .ai sent to you
  • open the file in acrobat then save as .pdf and open in illustrator
  • download the CC2017 trial

Hi Mike … It won’t let me save it as another type of file, nor will it allow me to open it.  The only option of the ideas you sent would be to download the trial, but I am concerned if I do so, once the trial is over, AI won’t work at all, and there is no way I’m going to buy the thing all over again.  Any other thoughts?  Thank you so very much for trying to help.
