Illustrator files converted to word files.

So recently my Illustrator went through an update, it would seem that after this update it decided to convert every existing .ai file on my laptop into a word file. The icon changed from Illustrator to word and when I click to open it it opens through word. I have no idea how or why this happened and it is a pain in the a** as every file I want to open I have to right click and open as Illustrator.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so is there a way to fix it ?
