Illustrator type fonts are crooked - letters don't sit square on base line

Illustrator fonts appear crooked -- canted a few degrees to the right. Have tried several fonts, and problem persists

What font types are you using? Have you checked if they are OTF or TTF? Have you tried installing the opposite file version to the one provided?

I.e. TTF > OTF

OTF> TTF.

Also what OS, what version of Illustrator, what build, what specifications etc please?

Please show a screenshot.

Please have the artwork selected and type panel as well as appearance panel and layers panel visible.

I thought it might be my screen, but the problem persisted when I converted it to a pdf.
